The Associated General Contractors of
America (AGC), National Association of Surety Bond producers (NASBP),
and The Surety & Fidelity Association of America (SFAA)
co-administer an industry program to place surety underwriters, who
usually are in the early phases of their careers, with host contractors
and subcontractors for one to two week internships, so that these
underwriters will experience first-hand the daily operations and
efforts that contractors and subcontractors undertake to succeed as
businesses in the competitive construction industry marketplace.
Operating for nearly three decades, this unique Program has placed many
underwriters who now have assumed senior positions within their
companies and who first gained an appreciation of the real-world
business culture of contractors and subcontractors through their
internship. Host contractors, in turn, have remarked over the years how
the surety underwriter intern provided them greater insight into how
sureties evaluate contractors for surety credit.
