NASBP Outstanding Surety School Students Recognized

Despite a heavy snowstorm that blanketed the East Coast in January a week prior to the Winter School Session, more than 105 students from across the nation and Canada attended the William J. Angell Surety School held in January in Houston. There were 57 students in Level I and 50 students in Level II.

NASBP students in each class identify the student who they consider to be the most outstanding pupil (MOP) to receive a memento signed by all the members of the class and faculty. Receiving the coveted football in Level I Red Team was Sarah King, Commercial Underwriting Assistant, SureTec Insurance Company, Houston, Texas. The Level I Yellow Team chose Ted Lee, Associate Contract Bond Underwriter, HCC Surety Group., Orange, California.

Level II Blue Team selected Zachary Dixon, Producer, Delmarva Surety Associates, Inc., Timonium, Maryland; and Level II Green Team selected Lillian Pobojewski, Surety Underwriter, Western Surety Company, Mississauga, Ontario, Canada.

As a small way of saying thank you for their hard work and dedication to NASBP, faculty members are given a crystal apple in recognition of every five years of service. This winter, three faculty members received service awards: Larry McMahon and David Castillo, each for 15 years of service, and Ralph Pulver for 25 years of service. Congratulations and thank you for your many years of service to NASBP and the surety industry!

The Level II students were treated to a luncheon with guest speaker John Knox, Jr., the founder and Chairman of the Board of SureTec, a top 20 surety company in the United States, who offered his perspective on the industry–past, present and future.

Registration for the Levels I, II and III during the Summer 2016 session, to be held in Kansas City, Missouri, is now open for NASBP Members, Affiliates and Associates.

The Most Outstanding Pupils were recognized at a graduation ceremony. See their pictures here.
