In Remembrance

Daniel R. Jameson (1955-2016)

It is with great sadness that NASBP announces that NASBP activist Dan Jameson, 61, passed away on November 25, 2016. Dan served as AVP of National Underwriting at The Guarantee Company of North America USA in Dallas, TX. Below several of Dan's friends and colleagues fondly remember working with him.

NASBP First Vice President Howard Cowan, President of the NASBP Member firm of Acrisure, LLC dba Cowan-Hill Bond Agency, Inc., said Dan's professional underwriting skills stood out among Dan's many NASBP colleagues and clients. Cowan said, "Dan was a highly professional underwriter who could take a financial statement apart and then put it back together. He knew how to evaluate a contractor's strengths and weaknesses. The final key element in his decision-making process was his take on the contractor's character. It was that trait that meant so much to his peers, agents and clients."

Johnny Moss, a Partner at the NASBP Member firm of K&S Insurance Agency (A Member of K&S Group, Inc.) in Rockwall, TX, said, "Dan Jameson was a great friend, underwriter, and evaluator of character. He was a true partner for our firm and the industry as a whole. My mentor, Richard Daiker, introduced me to Dan the first week I came to K&S Insurance. He told me that, if anything ever happened to him, I needed to go to Dan and try and hire him so that our agency could continue to gain surety knowledge the RIGHT WAY. I always enjoyed when Dan would come out to our office and discuss the industry or look over an account with us. He always had such a good perspective on every situation. Dan, thank you for your friendship and knowledge you brought with you every day. You will be missed, my friend."

Bill King, Vice President of the Eastern Region of NASBP Affiliate The Guarantee Company, said, "I have known Dan for over 30 years, as we competed in the Texas market. He was as genuine as they come, and it was always a pleasure to see him in Austin at the highway lettings and around the state at various industry meetings. In 2010, I joined The Guarantee and quickly learned of the underwriting talent my longtime friend possessed; he was one of the best I have encountered. Dan could quickly understand an underwriting case and then professionally articulate his reasons for the approval or declination, and he never overlooked the "character" of the contractor and also the producer. From a personal standpoint, Dan had a quiet, strong presence and possessed a wit and a smile that was envied by many. He was a husband and a father that cared for his family deeply. I am only one of many friends who will miss our times with Dan."

R. Bruce Huffhines, Contract Bond Manager in the Dallas office of NASBP Affiliate The Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc., said, "I am truly shocked and saddened by Dan Jameson's passing. He will be truly missed by everyone in the Texas market as he was well-respected by all agents and his competition. He was known for his knowledge of the industry, a great source of information, his underwriting abilities, and his decisions. He was very much a leader in this surety market. I had the privilege of being his friend and working with him at Seaboard for many years, plus playing many rounds of golf with him over the years. He understood the business with a desire to help everyone--he always knew the right questions to ask. Being mild mannered, he was not a person to brag or say bad things about people. Dan was a great guy to know and work with!"

Dan Jameson was born May 1, 1955, in Allegan, MI, to Roy Richard Jameson and Jennie Gale (Medendorp) Jameson. He is survived by his wife, Sara McFadin; children: Aubrey Epperson and husband Jarrod, Ryan Jameson and wife Pamela, Connor Jameson and Bailey Jameson; stepchildren: Johnny Thornburg and wife Amelia, Jeff Thonburg and wife Tiffany, and Thomas McFadin and wife April; 12 ¾ grandchildren; mother, Gale Jameson; and sister, Lisa Gray and husband Stephen.
