NASBP and the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Office of Surety Guarantees have teamed up again to host another series of Bonding Across America programs in four locations: Dallas, Los Angeles area, Atlanta, and Northern Virginia.
The first program will take place on Tuesday, May 2 at the D/FW Minority Supplier Development Council in Dallas. NASBP Third Vice President Tracy Tucker of the Tucker Agency, Ltd. in Fort Worth, TX, will conduct a session on bonding and insurance, describing the surety product and accounting and financial statements as well as the steps to qualify for surety credit. Tucker arranged for Jason Kennedy of the law firm of Harrison Steck to explain how small contractors should manage performance risks, focusing on contracting issues, especially those involving change orders. Kennedy has vast experience with the claims process, including payment and performance bonds, defective work, and breach of warranty.
On Tuesday, June 11, the Vice Chair of the NASBP Small & Emerging Business Committee, Lourdes Landa of McGriff Insurance Services, Inc. of Anaheim, CA, will present at the East Los Angeles College. Colin McCarthy, with the firm of Lanak & Hanna, will address risk performance and contractual issues small and emerging contractors should be aware of before entering into contract arrangements. Landa is a well-recognized and frequent presenter at bonding education workshops throughout California. Last year, Landa and McCarthy presented at the Las Vegas Bonding Across America Program.
The Atlanta program is scheduled for Thursday, June 27 at the Atlanta Technical College in the Dennard Conference Center.
The final program will take place sometime in August in Loudon County, VA at a location yet to be determined.
