Federal Government Funded Through December 20
Earlier this month Congress passed—and President Biden signed—a continuing resolution (CR) that funds the federal government until December 20. With the CR in place, members of Congress returned home to run for reelection and will not return to Washington until November 12, after the November 5 General Elections. When a lame duck Congress returns on November 12, it will be confronted with negotiating bipartisan spending agreements with a President who leaves office on January 20, 2025.
Upcoming NASBP Government Relations Events
Want to learn more about the General Elections results and its impact in the statehouses and on Capitol Hill? On December 4, NASBP will host a panel of construction industry lobbyists who will share their thoughts on the state and federal election results and the impact on their respective organizations. Confirmed panelists include Dana Thompson, Washington Representative from the Women Construction Owners & Executives (WCOE); John "JB" Byrd, representing the National Society of Professional Surveyors (NSPS); Jordan Howard, representing the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC); and Mike Oscar, representing the American Subcontractors Association (ASA). The session will be moderated by Larry LeClair, NASBP Director of Government Relations.
The annual Federal Legislative Fly-in will take place February 26-27, 2025. The host hotel, The Hilton Washington, DC, Capitol Hill, is just a few blocks from the U.S. Capitol. There will be no registration fees to attend, making it the perfect time to join your NASBP colleagues in the effort to ensure federal policymakers on Capitol Hill understand the significant role bonds play to protect taxpayer funds and advance public works infrastructure projects. February 26 is dedicated as the “Washington Program,” which includes remarks from former U.S. Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood and a panel of congressional staffers. February 27 is dedicated solely to Capitol Hill appointments.
Mark your calendars! More information will be coming soon regarding these special NASBP Government Relations events.
