President's Message

NASBP, Getting Better Every Year

This is the time of year when we all tend to look both backward and forward. It’s also the time of year you can't help but see cartoons, commercials, and other media showing Santa and his faithful reindeer that help him cover the entire world in one night. While we may not have to cover the entire world, NASBP does have a huge and varied mission, and we have our own team of NASBP Reindeer that help pull the sleigh every day. Of course, led by Mark McCallum, this team has names like Bethany, Charnita, Dasha, Dave, Liz, Martha, Michele, Kathy, Koula, Larry, and Shannon. And without all of these great people pulling for us, we would never get any of our initiatives off of the ground. If you have never had the pleasure of meeting or dealing with any one of these great professionals, you are missing out. I hope each and every NASBP Member gets a chance to meet and to work with this incredible staff and to say thank you for all they do for us every day. And, they do it with a smile. NASBP is lucky to have such a dedicated group pulling for us.

We are also very lucky to have volunteer leadership that is fully engaged and has a passion for this industry that is unmatched in any association I have ever seen. All of these people live this year's theme, THEY MAKE A DIFFERENCE. I appreciate the help each and every member of leadership and all of the many volunteers have given me not only this past year, but throughout my entire career. It is a great honor to be the President of this great team and one I will treasure forever.

I don’t keep many quotes, but I do have one quote from Colin Powell that I keep on my desk: “Organizations don’t really accomplish anything. Plans don’t really accomplish anything either. Theories of management don’t matter much. Endeavors succeed or fail because of the people involved. Only by attracting the best people will you accomplish great deeds.” I think this quote speaks directly to why NASBP continues to thrive and expand, adding to our success year after year.

It is a good time of year to try to slow down and enjoy some of our accomplishments, but soon it will be the New Year and time to recharge our batteries and move forward to continue to MAKE A DIFFERENCE. Do it every day in small ways and when you get the chance in big ways, but do something every day to improve yourself and to move this great industry forward.

Kimberly and I hope that everyone has a wonderful holiday season, and we wish you all a safe and Happy New Year.
