Be All In for the 2024 NASBP Annual Meeting & Expo in Austin!

The NASBP 2024 Annual Meeting & Expo is in a few days. Thanks to Co-Chairs Matt Cashion and Mark Duggan and their Program Committee, this year's 2024 Annual Meeting & Expo will feature exciting new events. Be "All In" and make note of these highlights and reminders about the 2024 Annual Meeting & Expo described below.

Sunday, April 14

Be sure to arrive in Austin in time on Sunday to visit this year’s Exhibitors’ tabletop exhibits from 11:00 am – 5:00 pm in the JW Grand Foyer, 4th Floor. For more information, view the NASBP Online Expo, which diagrams this year’s new Expo format. See the onsite brochure or Meeting App for the schedule when attendees can visit Exhibitors’ tabletop exhibits throughout the meeting.

The 2024 NASBP Annual Meeting & Expo will officially kick off the meeting with a rooftop Welcome Reception at the JW Marriott Austin on Sunday at 5:30 pm!

Monday, April 15

The General Session will launch on Monday morning. The morning is jam-packed with informative presentations, including NASBP President Patrick Pribyl’s address, the awards presentation, and the State of the Industry Report from CEO Mark McCallum. Then, Monday’s Keynote Speaker, Andrew Fastow, former Chief Financial Officer of Enron, will make observations about how the ambiguity and complexity of laws and regulations breeds opportunity for problematic decisions and will discuss what questions corporate directors, management, attorneys, fraud examiners, and auditors should ask, in order to ensure that their companies not only follow the rules, but also uphold the principles behind them. Finally, he will discuss ways in which technology can be deployed to illuminate such problematic situations. A presentation on the topic of artificial intelligence in construction provided by leaders from national general contractor, Suffolk Construction, will conclude the morning’s General Session. The Suffolk executives will offer their insights into how surety professionals can adapt to make more informed decisions for the betterment of clients.

Immediately following that morning’s General Session, plan to view and ask questions of this year's Exhibitors' demos during their Tech Demos from 12:00pm – 2:30 pm.

Tuesday, April 16

Tuesday’s Keynote will be local CEO and Founder of Gold Rush Vinyl, Caren Kelleher, who will share her fascinating story of transitioning from a Silicon Valley music executive to the trailblazer behind a cutting-edge, Austin-based vinyl record pressing plant during the digital music era.

New this year, attendees will hear the report from the Nominating Committee and the incoming president’s remarks Tuesday morning—instead of having to wait until Tuesday evening.

The incoming president’s remarks will be followed by a presentation from Joan Woodward, Executive Vice President of Public Policy at Travelers. Woodward will provide her economic, public policy, and political outlook, a data-driven analytical presentation.

The much anticipated “ALL IN Texas Hold ‘Em”-themed event (in lieu of a golf event) will be held Tuesday afternoon. Note that there are no entrance fees and registration for the Tournament is complimentary for all registered attendees, spouses, and guests of the NASBP Annual Meeting who wish to participate. The event will feature refreshments and snacks, heated competition, and fun prizes with lots of “Austin Flavor." Professional dealers and a tournament director will be managing the tables and providing instructions, so no experience is needed, every skill level welcome! If you are still interested in playing and haven't registered, stop by the NASBP Registration Desk at the Annual Meeting to see if there are spots still open.

The Annual Meeting’s final event will be held Tuesday evening at an amazing offsite venue called the Speakeasy Austin, which is just a short walk up the street from the hotel. The venue is unique with multiple floors to explore, including a rooftop terrace, local bourbon tasting, games (bowling and pool), food, and custom cocktails. The event will feature different options for musical entertainment. Dance the night away to 80s hits from the Spazmatics or opt for a quieter ambiance to have a conversation with unique acoustic music that only the “Live Music Capitol of the World” can deliver. The Speakeasy Austin has something for everyone!
