NASBP SuretyLearn for Contractors Helps Bond Producers Educate Prospective Contractor Clients

The NASBP SuretyLearn for Contractors website is a one-stop shop for free surety information for bond producers and their current or prospective small contractor clients.

The site links to many NASBP tools, including NASBP Virtual Seminars that focus on construction topics, NASBP Let’s Get Surety Podcast episodes, the NASBP Be Guaranteed to Succeed Campaign contractor resources, and the
Contractor Bonding Education and Mentoring Program.

The "Resources" section, https://learn.nasbp.org/4contractors-resources, conveniently puts educational tools for current and prospective contractor clients all in one place. There are numerous articles, forms, and videos linked here to help small and emerging contractors learn about surety industry terms, topics, and practices. Some of these include:

What is a surety bond? NASBP walks you through the bonding process - This short NASBP video gives an example of what a surety bond is and what someone new to the bonding process might need to know, in just seven minutes.

Always Verify Your Bond! - This one page document describes the two-step process that helps contractors verify the authenticity of surety bonds.

Balancing Construction Projects with Sound Financial Decision-making and Proven Risk Management - This article highlights how a bond producer can assist a contractor with financial expertise, subcontractor risk management, and relationship building.

A Quick Introduction to Construction Risks and Contracting Practices - This article provides nine checklists to help contractors identify, assess, and manage risks on a specific project.

Bond producers and contractor clients must register in order to access the articles, videos, and forms under "Resources." Registration is free for everyone.

NASBP SuretyLearn for Contractors also includes directories of NASBP Bond Producers and NASBP Construction CPA Firms, as well as links to government agencies that contractors may need to contact.

Make sure to also share this handout describing the Contractor Bonding Education & Mentoring Program with prospective clients. This free program helps new and emerging construction businesses learn to qualify for surety bonds.
