5-15 Leadership Committee - Mission Statement
To identify, cultivate and provide opportunities to the future leaders of our association.

NASBP's 5-15 Leadership Committee was created to provide opportunities for high potential surety professionals with 5 to 15 years of surety producer/agent experience to prepare for senior leadership positions within the NASBP Association and their organizations.

The program, which continues to evolve, encourages its members to be actively involved in the work of NASBP, provides members with access to the thought leaders in the surety industry, and offers unique educational and networking opportunities to its members.  The committee is broken down into two categories, the 5-15 Leadership Candidate and the 5-15 Leadership Committee Member.

NASBP 5-15 Leadership Candidate

Eligibility:

  • Employed by an NASBP Member Agency in good standing with the association
  • Have worked in surety as an producer/agent between five and fifteen years (some previous underwriting experience may be considered on a case by case basis)
  • Nominated to the program by their manager or a senior officer of your agency (For those members who own their own agency nominations from another NASBP member in good standing will be accepted)
  • Nomination form submitted to the NASBP during the open enrollment period which is from January 1 until the NASBP Annual Meeting each year.

Terms and requirements of the Candidate: 

  • The Candidate term will last two years, starting from the NASBP Annual Meeting following their nomination form submission
  • Candidates will be able to take advantage of the 50% discount on registration fees for the NASBP Annual Meeting following their nomination form submission
  • Participate in three out of the four NASBP 5-15 Leadership Committee quarterly calls per year
  • Attend one in person NASBP Meeting per year (Annual Meeting, Fall Meeting(s) or Mid-Year Board Meeting)
  • Attend 1 NASBP “ancillary” event within the 2 years of candidacy (Legislative Fly-In, Home office visits)
  • Candidate must be enrolled in an additional NASBP committee (other than 5-15) by the end of their 2 year Candidate term

Program Highlights:

  • Orientation to NASBP and how you can become involved in the leadership of the Association
  • Invitations to attend educational events designed specifically for 5-15 members
  • Peer coaching from current NASBP 5-15 Leadership Committee members
  • Quarterly conference calls with presentations on leadership topics - offered exclusively to 5-15 members
  • 50% discount to attend NASBP Fall Meeting(s) and the NASBP Annual Meeting
  • Invitation to the Leadership Reception and President’s Private Reception held at the Annual Meeting
  • Invitation from the President to attend an Annual Company Visit with the Board of Directors

NASBP 5-15 Leadership Committee Member

Eligibility:

  • Employed by an NASBP Member Agency in good standing with the association
  • Has completed the 2 year NASBP 5-15 Candidate program

Terms and requirements of the Committee Member:

  • Participate in two out of the four NASBP 5-15 Leadership Committee quarterly calls per year
  • Attend one in person NASBP Meeting per year (Annual Meeting, Fall Meeting(s) or Mid-Year Board Meeting, Legislative Fly-In, home office visits)
  • Member must be enrolled and an active member in an additional NASBP committee (other than 5-15)

Program Highlights:

  • Orientation to NASBP and how you can become involved in the leadership of the Association
  • Invitations to attend educational events designed specifically for 5-15 members
  • Quarterly conference calls with presentations on leadership topics - offered exclusively to 5-15 members
  • 50% discount to attend NASBP Regional Meetings and the NASBP Annual Meeting
  • Invitation to the Leadership Reception and President’s Private Reception held at the Annual Meeting
  • Invitation from the President to attend an Annual Company Visit with the Board of Directors

Automation and Technology Committee

    • The Automation and Technology Committee monitors and analyzes automation and technology issues, standards, and products relative to the construction and surety industries.

Commercial Surety Committee

    • The Commercial Surety Committee informs and educates members and the industry about Commercial Surety through educational programs, various media, and legislative information. The Committee’s communications emphasize how Commercial Surety products can be a lucrative market for surety bond producers.

Ethics Committee

    • The Professional Standards Committee is a standing committee that works to heighten membership awareness of the Association’s Code of Ethics and to elevate individual and collective ethics of surety bond producers and the overall surety industry.

Finance Committee

    • The Finance Committee is a standing committee that oversees the financial integrity and operation of the Association. The Committee submits all budgetary recommendations to the Association’s Board of Directors for approval.

Government Relations Committee

    • The Government Relations Committee develops and directs the government relations priorities and strategies for the Association. The Committee's advocacy efforts span all levels of government--local, state and federal--to advance the interests of bond producers and to educate legislators and government officials about the importance of surety bonding and the surety industry.

Industry Relations Committee

    • The Industry Relations Committee increases the Association’s outreach to and presence with construction industry associations, focusing specifically on organizations whose membership includes those that require, purchase, or are the beneficiaries of surety bonds. The Committee seeks opportunities to convey the importance of surety bonds and the role of the bond producer through various means including speaking engagements and the dissemination and placement of articles and other materials.

International Committee

    • The International Committee provides an arena for individuals willing to share information about surety business across national borders. Its members include those providing services in countries other than their own, and those wishing to understand practices foreign to them. As clients find work in countries with different regulations, laws and customs, members of this committee look to one another for information and resources.

Membership Committee

    • The Membership Committee is a standing committee that oversees the Association’s membership activities and policies. The Committee also develops campaigns to attract new members and to retain current members.

Professional Development Committee

    • The Professional Development Committee advances the knowledge and skills of surety bond professionals by developing and offering professional development and educational programs including the William J. Angell Surety School, workshops, and distance learning courses.

Small & Emerging Business Committee

    • The Small & Emerging Business Committee serves as a catalyst for initiatives within the Association to promote the interests of small and emerging businesses. The Committee advocates for resources to and educational programs for small and emerging businesses so they may qualify for surety credit.
