Level I

 

 

Level I: Is intended for in-house bond department staff, producers new to contract surety, and those new to the industry. The curriculum includes an overview of the surety industry, introductory financial statement analysis, work in process concepts and application, surety credit information-gathering techniques, submissions to surety companies, review of regularly encountered surety documents and bond forms, commercial surety and introduction to claims handling concepts. The three-day course completes with a review of all subject matter presented in an interactive, participatory format.

This course is rated "basic/introductory." It is intended for the student who has little or no knowledge of the subject matter or who has little or no prior experience with the subject matter.

Please note: Registration is not considered complete until the fee is paid and the student information survey is complete. This short survey is designed to gauge each participant’s level of surety knowledge and help our Surety School faculty tailor each class to the participants. It is not a test. It should be returned to the Professional Development Department at prodev@nasbp.org no later than Monday, July 10, 2017.

 

All cancellations must be sent in writing to NASBP at mthomas@nasbp.org or via fax at (202) 686-3656. For a full refund, a written cancellation must be received 30 calendar days prior to the start of the event. Cancellations received between 15 - 29 days prior to the event are eligible for a 50% refund. Cancellations received in less than 15 calendar days prior to the event are not eligible for refunds. All refunds will be issued by check and a 5% processing fee will be deducted from purchases made with a credit card.

Additional Information
Before coming to school, students should review a copy of The Basic Bond Book, the PDF of which is located on NASBP's Resources web page and take the 20-question open-book test based on the book, which will ensure that all students are ready for class.

Level I students who do not have an accounting background are strongly encouraged to view the 1-hour Virtual Seminar Accounting Terminology for Non-accountants (Financial Statements 101). It is free and will greatly improve your understanding of the concepts that will be taught at Surety School.

The William J. Angell Surety School - Level I has been approved by the state insurance/financial services department/commissioner/continuing education committee in each state for the amount of Property/Casualty Insurance continuing education credits listed below.

Students must attend all 3 days' classes in order to receive the credits; no partial credit is awarded. There is no final exam.
