Celebrating 15 Years of the NASBP SmartBrief!

When I had the privilege of first becoming NASBP’s CEO, among my early goals was to produce a readily consumable communication, a weekly e-newsletter, that would digest news and stories of import to surety professionals and those interested in suretyship. After researching options and selecting SmartBrief as NASBP’s partner for this purpose, on July 1, 2010, NASBP released its first SmartBrief issue, providing curated news and regular “touches” of information to our surety community.

This summer marks the 15th anniversary of producing the NASBP SmartBrief, which continues its mission of keeping surety and allied professionals up to date on current industry topics and trends and important Association news. Of Smartbriefs, NASBP Smartbrief is the only one focused on surety relevant topics, covering both contract and commercial surety stories. Perhaps that is why its engagement rates with its subscribers are the highest of the more than 200 SmartBriefs published!

Though SmartBrief serves as the publisher of our e-newsletter, the careful curation of stories and information is performed in-house with NASBP staff, as I felt that a third party would not have the necessary knowledge and insights to keep the quality of the article and information selection continuously high. This elevated level of staff involvement with NASBP SmartBrief is very different from the processes undertaken to produce most other SmartBrief newsletters. I am grateful to Kathy Hoffman, NASBP’s Director, Communications, and to Kathryn Doran, NASBP’s Assistant Director, Communications and Operations, for their able management and oversight of NASBP SmartBrief, making it an exemplar for weekly e-newsletters.
