ConsensusDocs Coalition Releases New Land Survey Standard Agreement
Owners and land surveyors will have a standard agreement to guide their contracting now that the ConsensusDocs Coalition is publishing a new Land Survey Agreement. The new agreement is designed to meet the unique characteristics of land surveying, which is an essential part of many road and building projects.
“The new agreement fills a specific industry need while providing a fair and balanced contractual foundation for owners and surveyors,” said Joe Leone, Chair of the ConsensusDocs working group that created the document and Partner at Drewry Simmons Vornehm, LLP in Indianapolis, Ind. “The contract is written in plain English to help ensure that both parties clearly understand their roles and responsibilities.”
Leone noted that owners often need to acquire testing laboratory services for various surveying projects. Because land survey services present needs distinct from other forms of contracting, a new tailored lab testing services agreement was needed in the industry.
The new agreement, called ConsensusDocs 244, is based on the same fair and balanced, best practice principles as previously-published ConsensusDocs agreements. This new agreement should facilitate the procurement of land surveying services for all types of construction projects. Like all ConsensusDocs form agreements, ConsensusDocs 244 was developed with input from all relevant industry perspectives.
