2015 NASBP Annual Meeting & Expo Presentations  

The 2015 NASBP Annual Meeting & Expo from April 19 to 22 in San Diego will focus on NASBP President Thomas Padilla’s theme, “Making a Difference,” and will offer a program that stimulates business and personal growth and provides strategic and competitive advantages for attendees with specific sessions tailored for emerging industry leaders. The following are some of the featured sessions and events scheduled:

  • NASBP is honored to hear from the Navy’s sixth air boss, whose distinguished Navy career spanned nearly four decades and included combat: Keynote Vice Admiral David Buss, U.S. Navy (Retired) Former Commander, Naval Air Forces.

  • Be sure to catch the motivational session titled,”Why You Succeed,” presented by Jerry Lujan, President of Elevation180. Grow your current and future customer relationship base by learning how to determine why you naturally do what you do, focusing on your unique gift and using your “why” to attract people to you! Lujan will offer insight from his 30 years of experience in the insurance industry working as a customer service representative, a producer, and an owner of one of the largest independently owned insurance agencies in the southwest.
  • Bond producers, get your CE credit by participating in the program, titled, “Bond Claims – Shaken and Stirred.” Presenters will include representatives from The Hartford and claim experts who will provide a general review of regulatory and contractual requirements and challenges confronted by the surety claim professional who is receiving notice of and investigating claims and thereafter seeks to determine and discharge its bond obligations during the course of a complex bond default. This session will focus on legal and business considerations that enter the claim process, along with the important role of the producer, and compare bond and contract forms and provisions, jurisdictional frameworks, and common completion methodologies available to the claim professional. Presenters include: Rick Levesque of The Hartford; Todd Bauer of Guardian Group, Inc.; and Mike F. Pipkin of Sedgwick, LLP. Ali Salamirad of Salamirad, Morrow, Timpane & Dunn LLP.

  • Also, Nick Newton of Newton Bonding, Chair of the NASBP Automation & Technology Committee, will make a presentation titled, How Technology will Impact Your Business in 2015 and Beyond.”  
  • Learn about improving your leadership skills by attending the session titled, “The Fierce Leader: Improve Results Through Conversation” presented by Halley Bock, CEO & President of Fierce, Inc. Bock will explore the three transformational ideas and seven principles that lay the foundation for a fierce conversation. Attend and learn how these ideas and principles create conversations that are the workhorses for your company and enable you to tackle your toughest challenge, while building an open and direct work environment. Bock will provide examples of these concepts experienced day-to-day and of actionable next steps.
  • Also, NASBP is pleased to present the session, titled, “Facilitating International Commercial Surety Bonds.” Bond producers and surety company representatives, who are veterans of the international market, will discuss the increasing demand for international commercial surety bonds. The panelists will discuss banking and surety and how these are confused in the international market; resources for help when a request is received; market capabilities; fronting relationships; and various taxes or fees involved. The panelists will include Sheila E. Thompson, CIP, of Rosenberg and Parker of Canada, Inc., Chris T. Parker of Chubb Surety, Hector D. Bouso, CPA, of Liberty Mutual Surety, and Aaron Ort of Zurich. Kathleen Mitchell of Wells Fargo Insurance Services USA, Inc. will be the moderator.
