AAA CMYK Stacked LogoThe AAA Construction Conference is in person this year, after COVID-19 caused the American Arbitration Association® to postpone its 2020 Conference, and make the 2021 Conference virtual. Plan to attend this year’s AAA Virtual Construction Conference on June 9 in New York City, with a focus on the growing complexities of construction projects, preventing disputes often inevitable in these projects, and creating dispute resolution strategies to mitigate risk and keep projects on track. The Conference kicks off with a breakfast session featuring general counsel from leading construction firms discussing arbitration from a client’s perspective, including the documentation of claims, how and why certain arbitrators are selected, forum and choice of law provisions and other important topics.

Adrian BastianelliThe Conference will offer five additional informative sessions. Among them is the one scheduled at 4:00 p.m. Eastern, when Adrian Bastianelli of NASBP Attorney Advisory Council firm Peckar & Abramson will be a panelist, along with other attorneys, for “Arbitrators Impartiality: The Canons Are Only the Starting Point for Ethical Requirements.” The ten Canon’s in the AAA’s Code of Ethics for Arbitrators in Commercial Disputes provide for generally accepted standards of ethical conduct for the guidance of arbitrators and parties in construction disputes. The panel will discuss specific ethical requirements and how to avoid potential landmines beyond the application of the Canons and the state and federal rules of professional conduct.

The other sessions are titled:
“Key Issues in Presenting Disruption and Delay Cases”
“Discovering Best Practices for Construction Arbitration”
“Don’t Get Lazy with Your Downstream Contracts—Consolidation and Joinder in Construction Disputes”
“International Construction Arbitration—Challenges, Cultural Differences, and Conflict Management Options”
