As a supporting organization, NASBP is pleased to announce that the 6th Annual Risk Management in Underground Construction Course will be held April 12-13, 2022, in Atlanta, GA. On April 13 at 9:00 a.m. ET, Kevin Baird, a Surety Client Consultant with Flood & Peterson (F&P), a NASBP member firm, will deliver a presentation, “Underground Risk Management through Surety.”
Baird will provide a brief synopsis of the surety industry’s underwriting approach in today’s market, including prequalification criteria and expectations of the bonding process. He will explain how underground contractors can address challenges, including construction material supply chains (concrete, rebar, and equipment), regulations, price escalations, and contract terms. Baird will describe how mitigating contractors’ risk through surety bonds, tracking funds of projects, and understanding limits of warranty and insurance contract provisions can be tools to obtaining surety credit and contractor success to Be Guaranteed To Succeed.
Baird has worked in the surety industry for 18 years, having spent the first 13 years of his career with Travelers, first, as a Contract Surety Field Underwriter in Colorado and then as a Managing Director of Travelers Surety Team in Georgia. In 2017 he joined Great American Insurance Group as the Bond Manager at its Colorado office. In 2020 he joined F&P of Greeley, Colorado, as a Surety Client Consultant and now is responsible for consulting and advising F&P’s surety clients and supporting the F&P team of Risk Advisors, who are surety bond producers.
This is the fourth year in a row that a NASBP representative will be speaking for the Risk Management in Underground Construction Course, which helps fulfill NASBP’s Be Guaranteed To Succeed PR Campaign mission–educating project parties and members of construction organizations and influential groups like this about the benefits of the surety product. Past presenters have included NASBP Industry Relations Committee members Rusty Lear of F&P and Michelle Stegmann of NASBP affiliate Crum & Forster. Other past presenters include: AJ Sercombe of NASBP member Lockton Companies, NASBP Attorney Advisory Council Participant Mike Zisa of Peckar & Abramson, Paul Monte of the NASBP Attorney Advisory Council firm Peckar & Abramson, and Adam Friedman of the NASBP Attorney Advisory Council firm Chiesa Shahinian & Giantomasi.
The Risk Management in Underground Construction Course provides a unique and engaging forum for stakeholders involved in large-scale underground projects, including contractors, owners, consultants, insurance companies, equipment manufacturers, and law firms. As tunneling projects get larger and more complicated, the issue of risk becomes more important.
International industry experts with real-world experience will cover contracting practices, geotechnical baseline reports, funding, insurance, risk registers, and best practices.
The registration fee is $1,295. Register before March 11 and receive a $100 discount. Because NASBP is a supporting organization, NASBP members can receive an additional $100 off. Register today.
