NASBP Board of Directors Changes SuretyPAC Bylaws to Permit Disbursements to Members of Congress up to Federal Limit

NASBP’s Board of Directors has modified the Association’s political action committee’s bylaws to permit the SuretyPAC to issue disbursements to Congressional candidates up to the maximum permitted by Federal Election Law. Chris Leach, the NASBP Government Relations Committee Vice Chairman, said, “These changes to the SuretyPAC Bylaws permit NASBP’s SuretyPAC to make contributions to candidates for federal office up to the maximum allowed under Federal Election Commission (FEC) rules, which is $5,000 per election cycle.” Leach, who is also Chair of the SuretyPAC, added, “The old SuretyPAC Bylaws limited the SuretyPAC contribution to no more than $2,500 per candidate per election cycle, which could have been problematic if NASBP contributed to a U.S. Senator several times over the course of a six-year term.” Also, Leach said the Board eliminated the requirement provided in the SuretyPAC Bylaws where two At-Large members of NASBP must serve as officers of the SuretyPAC.

These SuretyPAC Bylaw changes were approved by the NASBP Board at the NASBP Midyear Meeting in November 2011.

NASBP’s 2012 Legislative Agenda includes several federal issues, and the NASBP SuretyPAC will be a valuable advocacy tool this year for NASBP to help educate federal legislators about these issues of concern.
