NASBP is excited to announce the introduction of a new membership class available to individuals who are retired surety professionals. The full launch of the membership class will occur shortly after the Annual Meeting on Marco Island.
This new membership class, Retired Surety Professionals, marks the first category of membership for individual persons, not firms or companies, in NASBP and was created to maintain connections between the NASBP community and retired bond producers and underwriters. Retired surety professionals who were at one time employed by a NASBP surety agency or an affiliate surety company are eligible to join. The NASBP Board of Directors, at its Midyear Meeting last November, amended the NASBP Bylaws to create the new membership class, anticipating its launch in 2023.
According to the revised NASBP Bylaws, the new membership class, called “Retired Surety Professionals,” is open to individuals if they:
1. are former employees of regular members or affiliates and who are retired;
2. had been in the surety business 15 or more years before retirement;
3. shall no longer engage in the production of surety as a producer or an underwriter;
4. shall pay membership dues in an amount as set from time to time by the Board of Directors; and
5. shall be entitled to pay member registration fee rates at NASBP meetings and events, except that any Past President of the Association shall not have to pay a registration fee at the Annual Meeting.
The NASBP leadership felt that retired individual producers and underwriters who are interested in keeping ties with NASBP are too valuable a resource for them not to have a pathway to channel and contribute their surety industry skills, expertise, and experience gained over their careers. Those joining Retired Surety Professionals will pay annual dues of $500 and will be able to participate in the life of the NASBP community, contributing their considerable knowledge and energy to help NASBP with its mission of advancing the interests of surety bonding.
