Maryland Emerging Contractors Find Valuable Information at NASBP Bonding Program
On November 10, Maryland industry experts, including NASBP Members, Affiliates and Associates and some of their construction clients, participated in a free surety bonding information program for small and emerging construction business owners at the Randallstown Community Center in Randallstown, Maryland. Presenter Lynne Cook, Senior Vice President Early, Cassidy & Schilling, Inc. said, “During the networking session of the NASBP Maryland Bonding Education Program, I spoke with the attendees who raved about the presenters and the wealth of information and materials provided. A few folks commented they were pleased we provided them with contact information so they can follow up when they are ready to set up a bond line!”
NASBP organized the program with Maryland State Senator Delores Kelley, who kicked off the program by welcoming attendees before turning the program over to MD surety professionals, accountants, lenders, construction attorneys and others who made presentations on bonding, banking, accounting, legal risk management and public agency resources. The NASBP Member, Affiliate and Associate participants were: Lynne Cook of Early, Cassidy, Schilling, Inc.; Steve Freeman of M&T Insurance Agency, Inc.; Joshua Etemadi of Construction Bonds Inc. – a Division of Murray Securas; J.M. Bud Herndon, III of CNA Surety Corp.; David Castillo of The Gray Casualty & Surety Company; Kevin Doyle of the CPA firm of Lanagan Ryan Malcolm, & Doyle, P.C.; as well as NASBP Outside Counsel Martha Perkins and Erek Barron, Esq. both of the Mid-Atlantic Law firm of Whiteford, Taylor & Preston, LLP.
Others included: Darius Davis of Harbor Bank of Maryland; Charles Martin and Tonya Dorsey of M&T Bank; Stanley W. Tucker of Meridian Management Group, Inc. and representing Maryland’s Small Business Development Financing Authority; Paul Smith of SJLL Enterprises, LLC of Columbia, MD; Claretta Rideout of DeQuan’s Construction LLC of Baltimore, MD; J. Graham Ralston of the U.S. DOT’s Office of Small Disadvantaged Business Utilization; Tesha Williams of the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Office of Surety Guarantees; and Sam Carradine of SFAA.
Program attendees learned about the steps and resources necessary to qualify for financial and surety credit and had several opportunities to network with and ask questions one-on-one of the expert presenters. NASBP provided a complimentary continental breakfast and box lunch for registrants and presenters.
