NASBP Summer Surety School A Rousing Success!

More than 100 students from across the nation and as far away as China and Australia attended the William J. Angell Surety School held in August in Atlanta. There were 39 students in Level I, 39 students in Level II and 28 students in the Angell-Curtin Advanced Surety School, Level III.

At every NASBP school, the students in each class identify the student whom they consider to be the Most Outstanding Pupil (MOP) to receive a memento signed by all the members of the class and faculty. Receiving the coveted football in Level I was Michael A. Cox, Jr. of the U.S. Small Business Administration in Washington, DC. Level II students selected Reynaldo Castaneda of Alliant Insurance Services in Clark, NJ. Level III selected Ryan Stringham of The Buckner Group in Salt Lake City, UT, to receive the signed hard hat.

NASBP would like to thank C. David Moody, Jr., President and CEO of C.D. Moody Construction Company of Atlanta, who spoke to the Level III students during lunch on Thursday. Moody told his compelling story about his path to becoming a general contractor and offered valuable advice to surety bond professionals about how to better serve their contractor clients.

A highlight of the week for Level II students was their luncheon on Wednesday, during which they asked questions of a panel of seasoned underwriters and bond producers about roles, career growth, job changes, and many other topics.

NASBP also would like to thank the NASBP Members and Affiliates who helped teach the School by dedicating their time and expertise once again for the benefit of NASBP, the next generation of bond producers and underwriters, and the surety industry as a whole. There was a great deal of “helping out” as several faculty members played roles in the Level I case study and in the final Level II case study. Others contributed to the final Level III Strategic sessions. Listed below are the faculty members’ names followed by their official role at the Surety School.
