NASBP 2010 Regional Meetings Provide Surety Professionals Variety of Substantive Programs
The recent meeting of Regions 1, 2, & 3 in San Diego from October 14-16 marked the last of the four successful NASBP Regional Meetings held this summer and fall. All of the NASBP Regional Meetings delivered a variety of substantive programs. Below are links to some of the presentations and handouts that the NASBP membership may wish to access to review the valuable information provided at the meetings and to share with their staff that were unable to attend. Also, highlights from some of these programs are pictured below.

This year’s Regions 1, 2, & 3 Annual Meeting was held Oct. 14 to 16, in San Diego, CA.
- John Armour of CBIZ/Mayer Hoffman McCann PC and Kevin M. Brown of Rosner Brown Touchstone & Keller, LLP presented “Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB)—What you don’t know might hurt you,” on the proposed FASB revenue-recognition accounting standard that will have a significant effect on the preparation of contractors’ financial statements.
- Also at the Regions 1, 2, & 3 Meeting, Steven L. Reed of Smith, Currie & Hancock LLP made a presentation on developing opportunities and compliance issues in federal contracting, titled “Developing Opportunities and Compliance in Federal Contracting Small Business Set Asides” and provided a 10-page white paper dated October 15, 2010.

The Regions 8 and 9 meeting, the first of the four NASBP Region Meetings scheduled this summer/fall, was held in Charleston, SC from July 22 to 24.
- Dr. S. Scott MacDonald of the SW Graduate School of the Banking Foundation presented on “The Current Lending Environment—Is There Light at the End of the Tunnel?”
- Also, Brian Moore of FMI Corporation, presented on “Organizing For Growth: How to Build a Sustainable Organization for Good Times and Bad.”
This year’s NASBP Regions 10 and 11 meeting was held in Mashantucket, CT from Sept. 19 to 21.
- Dr. S. Scott MacDonald of the SW Graduate School of the Banking Foundation presented, “An Economic Outlook,” and “The Current Lending Environment—Is There Light at the End of the Tunnel?”
- Also, at Regions 10 & 11, Thomas Eckert of The Bonadio Group, Robert Kelly of Berkley Surety, and Randy Stutzman of FMI Corporation made a presentation titled, “An Industry Perspective on Ownership Transition & Succession Planning.”

This year’s NASBP Regions 4, 5, 6, & 7 meeting was held in St. Louis, MO from Sept. 23 to 25.
- Mark “Rusty” Sherwood of McGraw-Hill Construction presented a detailed overview of McGraw-Hill’s 2010 Construction Outlook Report and a preview of McGraw-Hill’s 2011 Report.
- David Allison of CBIZ National Construction Industry Group and David Seitter of Spencer Fane Britt & Brown gave a presentation titled, “Contracting with the Federal Government.”

At the Regions 1, 2, & 3 Meeting, Carl Newman was recognized for his outstanding dedication and contributions to the Association. Newman will soon be retiring from his agency, Parker Smith Feek in Bellevue, WA.
