NASBP Virtual Seminars–You Won’t Want to Miss These Timely Topics
Whether you are looking to keep yourself and your staff up to date on the latest developments in the surety world, train new employees, or help your clients implement best practices, NASBP has a Virtual Seminar to meet your needs.
All topics are vetted by the NASBP Virtual Seminar Editorial Board to ensure that they are timely and applicable to surety bond producers, underwriters and their clients. Upcoming presentations include:
- May 5 – This Virtual Seminar, titled “Construction Surety Bonding on Native American Projects,” will explore the legal and practical realities of bonding in these specialized circumstances, and will be presented by Roger S. Owers, Esq. of Sacks Tierney P.A.
- June 4 – This is a complimentary Virtual Seminar in advance and to help attendees prepare for the NASBP Legislative Fly-in. NASBP Director of Government Relations Larry LeClair will provide an update on top legislative issues and suggest talking points to ensure Fly-in participants have a successful experience at the June 9-10 NASBP Fly-in. Note that this Virtual Seminar will be held on a Thursday instead of a Tuesday.
- June 16 – G. William Quatman, Esq., FAIA, DBIA of Burns & McDonnell Engineering Co., Inc., will discuss the newly released Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) bond forms and how they will benefit the industry. Quatman is the first architect ever to become both a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects (FAIA) and a Designated Design-Build Professional™ (DBIA) of the Design-Build Institute of America.
- July 14 and July 28 – This two-part Virtual Seminar, titled “Working in Different States: A Map to the Varying State Laws that Limit and Supersede Construction Contracts,” will be presented by Douglas Tabeling, who is a Partner in the law firm of Smith, Currie & Hancock.
If you have not attended a Virtual Seminar yet in 2015, you have missed some great sessions, including an encore performance from FMI on ownership transfer and management succession; a detailed, data driven update of the performance of the global, national, and relevant regional economy from a construction perspective; and an in-depth look at contract terms and conditions fraught with risk for contractors and sureties and how a surety can help in the review process.
Topics under development for summer and fall Virtual Seminars include workforce shortages and their potential effects on contractor default; a leadership series; co-surety issues; and much more. If you have a topic you would like to see presented as a Virtual Seminar, contact NASBP Manager of Professional Development, Charnita Lee at Clee@nasbp.org.
These hour-long Virtual Seminars are held usually on Tuesdays at 2:00 p.m. ET. The June 4 Virtual Seminar on the Fly-in Legislative issues is an exception as it will be held on a Thursday. NASBP hosts approximately 24 each year. The registration fee for each seminar is $69, a benefit open only to NASBP members, affiliates and associates. While each registration only grants access to one computer connection, NASBP encourages participants to host staff training sessions and/or invite clients to join them in a conference room so that multiple people can learn at one time.
Since January, NASBP Virtual Seminars have been held using the Adobe Connect platform, which allows participants to simply log in through their computers, turn up their computer’s speakers, and see the PowerPoint presentation and hear the presenter in real time.
