Have you participated in an NASBP Virtual Seminars? In 2011 more than 1334 members, affiliates, and associates have tuned into relevant and new industry information to help them improve their business.
Mark your calendars for these Virtual Seminars scheduled for the next two months:

The following presentations will be held at 2 p.m. ET on the dates indicated:

July 12, Don Appleby of Willis of Colorado and Darrin Weber of IMA of Texas, Inc. present “ACORD Certificate Changes for Dummies: What has changed and what you need to know”. ACORD, the licensing company for insurance forms, has amended its certificate requirements. The company has indicated that these changes are in response to concerns raised by various state insurance commissioners that COIs (certificates of insurance) must comply with coverage provided by the insurance policy being represented. The new rules, now in effect, govern how insurance brokers and companies issue certificates.

In this presentation the following will be examined and discussed:

  • The issues surrounding the changes
  • What you need to know
  • How you can best advise your clients

July 26, Rick L. Levesque of The Hartford and Edward Rubacha of Jennings of Haug & Cunningham, LLP will be representing Pearlman Association when they look at managing complex surety claims.

August 9, David S. Lomax, Assistant Vice President/Underwriting Officer Liberty Mutual Surety and John McNerney General Counsel, MCAA will provide insight into the FASB proposed revenue recognition standard and the multiemployer pension standard. This is a complimentary presentation, free to all NASBP members, affiliates, and associates.

August 23, NASBP Automation & Technology Committee members, Deborah Burton of Wells Fargo Insurance Services of Kentucky, Inc. and Nicholas Newton of Associated Bonding will look at ways in which you can better leverage technology in your organization.

Audio-Recorded Virtual Seminars

On June 28, by David Johnson, Smith Amundsen, presented “Responsibilities for Crane Operations in Construction: Regulations, Compliance, and Liability.” NASBP member, The Cashion Company, took the opportunity to invite several contractor customers and a prospect to their offices to listen to the Seminar. Four business owners, as well as six employees with crane responsibilities joined The Cashion Company for the live presentation. One customer had driven two hours to attend while another had driven an hour and a half. All attendees agreed they learned a lot, remaining afterwards to discuss the information they had just heard. One slide in particular drew their particular attention because of its implications regarding responsibility:

Under the new regulation, OSHA uses the term employer primarily to include:

  • employers whose employees deal directly with cranes, and
  • employers whose employees work in the vicinity of cranes.
  • These employers are subject to all provisions of the rules

Agency principals were excited about this opportunity to bring substance to their customer relationships in a real, tangible manner. Matt Cashion said, “This was one of the best $69 investments I’ve ever made!”
