An even 100 students from across the nation and as far away as Brazil and China attended the NASBP William J. Angell Surety School and the Angell-Curtin Advanced Surety School Level III, held simultaneously in August in San Diego. There were 34 students in Level I and 33 in each of Levels II and III (the Angell-Curtin School).
At every NASBP School, the students in each class identify the student whom they consider to be the most outstanding pupil to receive a memento signed by all the members of the class and faculty. Receiving the coveted football in Level I, was Maxwell Miller of Great American Insurance Company in Rockland, MA. Level II selected Travis Schreiber of M3 Insurance in Madison, WI, to receive the football. In Level III, Ty Jones of Regions Insurance, Inc., in Ridgeland, MS, received a hardhat as a memento. See pictures below. For additional pictures, visit the NASBP’s Facebook page, by clicking here.
The Level III class held a lunch with guest speaker Nigel Cary, the former president of Cox Construction Co. located in Vista, CA. Cox Construction Co. is a small business that specializes in building construction work for government agencies in California and Nevada. Cary focused his remarks on the necessity of sound succession planning in a construction company, using the example of his own rise to the presidency of Cox due to the unexpected death of founder James M. Cox. Cary also revealed how he instituted his own succession plan so that he could retire and pass on the firm to the next generation of owners.
Additionally, Susan Hecker of Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. in San Francisco, attended the NASBP Angell-Curtin Advanced Surety School Level III as an observer to help provide feedback to faculty as they fine-tune the course. Hecker was drafted to help with several sessions, including the Level III Strategic Issues module and the Level II luncheon panel.
Registration for the NASBP Winter Session of Surety School will open in mid-September. The Winter School will be limited to Levels I and II and will be held at the Doubletree Hotel Greenway Plaza in Houston, TX. For more information about NASBP’s Surety School, visit nasbp.org.
