Winter Surety School Open to Members, Affiliates and Associates

The Winter Session of the William J. Angell Surety School, two classes each of Levels I and II, are now accepting priority registrations for NASBP Members, Affiliates and Associates. For more than three decades, the School has provided students with the opportunity to learn the business from the top surety producers and underwriters in the country. The 2015 Winter Session will take place in Houston, Texas from Jan. 25-30.

Over the course of three days, Level I offers an introduction to the surety industry that familiarizes students with the function and process of bonding with an emphasis on understanding how contractors’ financials are analyzed during the underwriting process. This course is intended not only for assistant, associate, trainee and new producers and underwriters but also administrative assistants, account managers, risk advisors and executive assistants, among others. The registration fee for Members, Affiliates and Associates is $1,275.

2014 Summer Surety School Level II Instructor Bud Herndon teaches the “Surety
Claims” module.

The intensive, five-day Level II course teaches students the basics of profiling clients, analyzing work in process, understanding cash flow and its importance to a contractor’s financial stability, creating an account submission, dealing with different types of claims, and managing risk. It concludes with a case study that offers participants an opportunity to put into practice all the knowledge and skills learned during the week. This program is a must for producers and underwriters with less than five years of experience. Others who have benefitted from the class include claims assistants, risk advisors, analysts and customer service representatives. The registration fee for Members, Affiliates and Associates is $1,785.

School attendees are responsible for making their own sleeping room accommodations with the Doubletree Hotel Greenway Plaza-Houston. NASBP students receive a discounted rate of $155 (plus applicable taxes). To guarantee the rate, reservations must be made before Monday, Jan. 5, 2015.

Non-member registration will open Nov 12.
