A Summer for the Record Books: NASBP Surety School Celebrates Learning and Leadership

In August, the 2026 NASBP William J. Angell Summer Surety School made history. The largest NASBP Surety School offered to date brought together 234 students and 33 faculty members from across the country and around the world for several days of learning, collaboration, and connection. Participants strengthened their understanding of surety, learned from experienced industry professionals, and built relationships with peers from across the industry.

One of the most anticipated traditions of every Surety School session is the selection of the Most Outstanding Pupil (MOP). Classmates nominate a student who stands out for their engagement, teamwork, leadership, and contributions to the shared learning experience. Each MOP is recognized with a coveted Surety School memento: a football signed by their classmates and faculty or in the case of the Contract Level III Class a hard hat.

The spotlight also shone on our dedicated faculty, who give their time and expertise year after year to mentor the next generation of surety professionals. As a token of appreciation, faculty receive a crystal apple for every five years of service.

At this summer’s session, Dawn Nevill of Arch Insurance was recognized for 10 years of teaching, where she has been helping Contract Level 1 students gain insights into the surety industry, an incredible milestone of commitment to NASBP and the industry. We also had the honor of celebrating NASBP’s John “Jack” J. Curtin, Jr. President’s Award that was presented to the Professional Development Committee at the 2026 NASBP Annual Meeting & Expo by then-President Robert Coon for the Committee’s diligent work to provide comprehensive educational programs, with the Surety School faculty this summer! NASBP’s Surety School is the crown jewel of NASBP’s Professional Development committee, so celebrating this award with the team of faculty impact on countless students was priceless!
