NASBP’S Make Surety a Career Program provides university instructors and college students with free resources to learn more about surety bonding, including classroom curriculum and an online course geared toward college students, all of which are readily accessible from the NASBP website at https://learn.nasbp.org/MakeSuretyACareer.
Professors and students may be on summer break now, but if they are looking to get ahead for the fall semester it’s a perfect time to share the Make Surety a Career Program!
Free Online Course for College Students
The NASBP “Make Surety a Career Course” is a free, on-demand, interactive eLearning course for students available 24/7 that students can take at their own pace. The Course consists of 9 modules that begin by describing how surety bonding works and the value and benefits of surety bonds. It then goes on to detail the underwriting process and focuses on certain contractor characteristics that sureties are looking for—the three Cs, Character, Capacity, and Capital. The later modules go into underwriting considerations, including the importance of the contractor building an advisory team.
After students complete the course and evaluation, they can complete the “Internship Request Form” to request internship experiences with bonding agencies and with surety companies.

Curriculum Materials for College/University Faculty
The NASBP Make Surety a Career Curriculum Packet includes materials on surety bonding designed to be included in collegiate insurance and business classes. The Curriculum Packet was designed by NASBP with Professor Kurt Krogull, Director of the Jack Lockton Certificate in Insurance and Risk Management at the University of Kansas School of Business.
The packet includes an “Introduction to Surety” slide presentation, sample contractor financial statements and surety case study template, and a quiz question bank to all be incorporated into an insurance or business class. The faculty will also be able to request surety professionals as guest speakers for his or her class. Once a professor signs up for the curriculum packet, they also gain access to all of NASBP’s member resources on surety using his or her login credentials.
Share the NASBP Make Surety a Career Curriculum Packet with professors at your alma maters and local universities who teach insurance and business classes and with whom you may have a relationship. Let NASBP know at prodev@nasbp.org what universities and professors that you have contacted.
