NASBP Offers Continuing Education Opportunity at the May 2011 Annual Meeting

During the NASBP 2011 Annual Meeting, NASBP will be offering a complimentary continuing education course for all licensed agents on Monday, May 16th from 12 noon – 2 p.m. Mountain Time. Surety professionals who attend the Annual Meeting can earn CE credits and gain valuable knowledge by attending this informative session, titled “Tips & Tools for Maintaining Bonding in Tough Times,” and presented by David Pesce, Vice President of Berkley Surety Group.

In today’s construction environment, contractors are encountering new challenges, which will continue until the construction market fully recovers, in getting bonds. As a contractor’s balance sheets show signs of strain and income statements start to include some “red ink,” sureties may utilize some lesser-used underwriting practices as a condition of issuing bonds. This Workshop will outline strategies bond underwriters are currently using to reduce their risk and enable contractors to obtain the bonds they need to operate in today’s market. The advantages and concerns they present for contractors will also be explored.

This two-hour educational workshop, open to all licensed agents, has been submitted for continuing education credit in all 50 states. Also, a diverse line-up of breakout sessions will be offered that include a contractor’s panel, titled “Where’s the Work?,” a tutorial, titled “Integrated Project Management,” an update on proposed Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) changes, and a commercial surety roundup, titled “Contract Bonds for Everything but Sticks and Bricks.” The Meeting will be held at the Broadmoor in Colorado Springs, CO.
