New NASBP Training Resource for Bonding Department Staff Now Offered
A new educational resource, the NASBP Surety Industry Introduction Course, debuted in NASBP’s catalog of online courses shortly before the 2026 NASBP Annual Meeting. This invaluable course is available from the NASBP Learning Center at https://learn.nasbp.org/nasbp-surety-industry-introduction-course#product_tab_overview. It provides a comprehensive overview of the surety industry for those new to suretyship or who are seeking a structured understanding of core concepts, processes, tips, and approaches. New and recent hires, career switchers, administrative staff, among others, will gain practical insights into how surety bonds function, the roles and responsibilities of industry stakeholders, and the full lifecycle of a surety bond—from submission through execution, maintenance, and potential claims—information not readily available in educational offerings by other industry or insurance-related organizations.
The course is delivered through 12 self-guided modules and a live virtual discussion with experienced industry faculty. These live discussions will be offered twice per year, and course participants will have a choice of which virtual discussion they wish to attend. In addition to the learning modules and the live virtual discussion, resources, such as forms, checklists, an industry dictionary, and more, are part of the course experience. Those finishing the course will receive certificates of completion to attest to their knowledge attainment.
The 12 modules comprising the course are the following:
- Introduction to NASBP and Suretyship
- Types of Surety Bonds
- Submissions
- Bond Execution
- Cancellation, Release, and Renewals
- Indemnity Agreements
- Alternatives to Increase Bonding Capacity: Subordination Agreements
- Financial File Maintenance
- Form Resources
- Roles Within the Surety Industry
- Claims
- Professional Development
The cost of the course is $380 for NASBP members.
As NASBP continues efforts and programs (such as the Make Surety a Career Program at https://learn.nasbp.org/MakeSuretyACareer) to attract talent to the surety industry and to nurture and sustain that talent, the NASBP Surety Industry Introduction Course fulfills a critical need for a comprehensive and cohesive orientation to suretyship concepts and processes. My sincere thanks to the Professional Development Committee for its leadership and foresight and especially to those volunteers who worked on and made this new course offering possible.
