ConsensusDocs Coalition Celebrates Nearly Six Years of Publishing

NASBP is pleased to announce that the ConsensusDocs Coalition recently celebrated nearly six years of publishing. Since its formation in September of 2007, NASBP has participated and supported the Coalition’s efforts to provide the only standard construction contracts written and endorsed by a large group of leading design and construction industry associations. Today, the Coalition represents 40 organizations.

The most recent organization to join the Coalition is the Dispute Resolution Board Foundation (DRBF), which is the 40th member of the Coalition. “The DRBF is very pleased that the ConsensusDocs coalition actively listened and worked with the DRBF in creating an industry standard contract document for Dispute Review Boards,” commented Deborah Mastin, President of Region 1 Board of Directors of the DRBF. “This is confirmation that DRBs are a widely accepted industry best practice in the United States and Canada when setting up dispute avoidance and resolution mechanisms on construction projects.” ConsensusDocs are the only standard contracts that list DRBs as an explicit dispute mitigation option for the parties to consider when structuring their contracts.

Here are some remarkable aspects of the effort that ConsensusDocs celebrates:

  • 150% increase in users
  • 100% increase in Coalition size and breadth (40 Coalition members)
  • 50% increase in contract documents published, including several industry firsts
  • Public owners increasingly requiring ConsensusDocs contracts
  • Timely contract updates keeping pace with the changing law and industry
  • Launch of a new technology platform facilitating stakeholder collaboration

“Addressing the most challenging as well as fundamental issues confronting today’s design and construction industry is what ConsensusDocs now has a proven track record of accomplishing,” comments Brian Perlberg, Executive Director of ConsensusDocs. Doug McNames of Baker Concrete and Chair of the ConsensusDocs Industry Content Council adds, “Our company uses ConsensusDocs as a way of attaining equity in our agreements and bringing out the ‘best in class’ approach for improved Project results to all stakeholders.” For more information, visit www.ConsensusDocs.org.
