In January a record 170 students from across the U.S. and Canada kicked off 2023 with clear insights into the world of surety, when they attended the NASBP Winter Surety School, which included two Contract Surety Level I Classes, two Contract Surety Level II Classes, and the Commercial Surety Level I Class. The Winter Surety School was held in Sugar Land, TX.

At every NASBP School, the students in each class identify the student whom they consider to be the most outstanding pupil (MOP) to receive a memento signed by all the members of the class and faculty.

Receiving the coveted football in Level I Red Team was Sara Grace Deese of Marsh & McLennan Agency, Charlotte, NC.

The Level I Yellow Team chose Will Siegfried of Arch Insurance Group, Mount Juliet, TN.

The Level II Blue Team selected Omer Alsaheb of RAISE Underwriting, London, ON.

The Level II Green Team selected Chase Zumo of Cory, Tucker & Larrowe, Inc., Metairie, LA.

The Commercial Surety School class selected Jennifer Morales of Intact Insurance Specialty Solutions, Orlando, FL.

As a small way of saying “thank you” for their hard work and dedication to NASBP, faculty members are given a crystal apple in recognition of every five years of service. This winter, NASBP Professional Development Chair and Past President Matt Cashion presented two faculty members with service awards: Erle Benton received an award for 20 years of service and Steve Nelson received an award for 10 years of service!

Additionally, NASBP President Nick Newton and Professional Development Committee Vice Chair Michael Baxter also had the distinct pleasure of presenting NASBP Past President and Professional Development Committee Chair Matt Cashion an award for an amazing 35 years of service!
